boots
A type of footwear characterized for their durability. They cover the entire foot as well as the ankle, or even more. They can be made from leather, rubber, or even metal. Some have steel plating on the end to protect the toes.
Footwear that doesnt cover the whole foot (like mary janes), footwear that doesn't cover the ankle (like oxfords), footwear that are less durable (like high tops) are tagged as shoes.
So, while high tops cover the ankle, their comparative lack of durability classify them as shoes (most sneakers are made of textiles or soft plastic).
